YAG Capsulotomy

What Is Posterior Capsular Opacification?
YAG capsulotomy is a fast, painless laser procedure used to treat posterior capsular opacification (PCO), a common and completely normal condition that can occur after cataract surgery. Over time, the thin membrane that holds the intraocular lens (IOL) in place can become cloudy, causing vision to blur again. Many patients describe it as feeling like their cataract has come back — noticing glare, halos, and cloudy vision similar to what they had before surgery.

How the Laser Restores Vision:
During the procedure, Dr. Feng uses a YAG laser to create a small opening in the cloudy capsule behind the lens implant. This allows light to pass clearly to the back of the eye, quickly restoring crisp, clear vision.

What to Expect During and After:
The treatment takes about five minutes, is entirely painless, and is performed in-office. Before the procedure, your eyes will be dilated using drops. Afterward, you’ll be given anti-inflammatory drops for a few days to reduce inflammation.

When Vision Improves and What’s Normal:
Most patients experience visual improvement within hours, once the dilation wears off. Some may notice floaters immediately following the procedure, but these usually diminish or become less noticeable with time.

A Simple, Effective Solution:
YAG capsulotomy is a highly effective treatment that restores the sharp vision you enjoyed right after your cataract surgery — safely, quickly, and with no downtime.

Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI)

Prevent a Dangerous Glaucoma Emergency

Why LPI Is Performed:
Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is used to treat or prevent narrow-angle or angle-closure glaucoma, a serious form of glaucoma in which the iris blocks the eye’s natural drainage angle. This blockage can cause sudden and severe spikes in eye pressure, leading to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly. Even if you don’t have symptoms, you may be at risk based on the anatomy of your eye, which can be identified during a routine exam.

How the Procedure Works:
LPI works by using a laser to create a tiny opening in the outer edge of the iris, allowing fluid to flow more freely within the eye. This relieves pressure buildup and helps protect the optic nerve from damage.

What to Expect During the Visit:
The procedure takes only a few minutes per eye and is done entirely in-office. You may experience some light sensitivity or mildly blurry vision for a short time afterward.

Eye Drops and Aftercare:
Before the procedure, pilocarpine drops are used to constrict the pupil, making the iris thinner and easier to treat. Afterward, anti-inflammatory eye drops are prescribed for a few days to ensure comfort and promote healing.

A Proactive Step for Vision Preservation:
LPI is a quick, low-risk treatment that can prevent a potentially blinding condition. It gives patients peace of mind and long-term protection with a single office visit.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Lower Eye Pressure for Glaucoma Without Daily Drops

How SLT Helps Manage Glaucoma:
Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is an effective and non-invasive laser treatment for patients with open-angle glaucoma. This type of glaucoma affects the eye’s drainage system, leading to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), which can cause damage to the optic nerve over time. SLT offers an excellent alternative or complement to daily pressure-lowering eye drops.

How the Laser Works:
SLT targets the trabecular meshwork — the part of the eye responsible for draining fluid — with gentle, selective laser energy. This laser stimulates the tissue to improve fluid outflow and lower eye pressure. Because it specifically targets certain cells, it leaves surrounding tissue untouched, making it safe and repeatable.

What to Expect with Treatment:
The procedure is painless and takes less than 10 minutes. Numbing drops are used beforehand, and afterward you may be prescribed anti-inflammatory drops for a few days. Your eye pressure will be monitored shortly after the treatment and at follow-up visits. Some patients experience mild blurring or sensitivity, but most return to normal activities the same day.

How Long It Lasts and Repeatability:
Multiple SLT treatments may be needed over time, and the pressure-lowering effect can last anywhere from three months to five years. Because the laser does not cause scarring, it can be safely repeated if the effect diminishes.

Freedom from Drops, Peace of Mind:
SLT is a safe, proven, and medication-free option for long-term glaucoma management. It empowers patients to take control of their eye health and often reduces or even eliminates the need for daily drops.

What to Expect

Efficient, Comfortable, and Convenient:
All of these laser procedures are performed in our office, and you’ll be able to go home the same day. Each one is quick — usually under 10 minutes — and well tolerated by patients of all ages. You may be in the office for an hour due to the time needed for consultation, workup, drops, and any eye pressure checks afterwards.

Eye Drops and Post-Procedure Care:
Before treatment, we’ll use the necessary eye drops to prepare your eyes. Afterward, you’ll be given detailed instructions and any prescribed drops to promote healing and reduce inflammation or pressure.

Follow-Up and Recovery:
Your follow-up care will be scheduled to ensure everything is healing properly and to monitor your eye pressure or visual results. Most patients are able to return to their normal routines immediately.
